Synopsis of genera assigned to Pezizales and their types

Abstract: The order Pezizales comprises 254 accepted genera, divided into 25 families, including a few of uncertain position. Since Eckblad’s work in 1968, no catalogue defining the types of these genera has been proposed, even though the rules of the International Code of Nomenclature have evolved and the concept of type remains fundamental for the definition of a taxon. This paper therefore proposes an update of the names of genera of Pezizales, whether accepted or not, totaling 429 names, accompanied by their diagnosis and type. A few cases worthy of discussion are highlighted at the beginning of the article.
