What is Peziza livida Schumach. (Pezizales)? Critical review of its interpretations, and description of Perilachnea carbonicola sp. nov.

Abstract: New collections of a rare species, growing on burnt places and traditionaly named Trichophaea livida since the late 1980s, gave the opportunity to sequence it and to explore its taxonomic history. We discovered that the original Peziza livida has been differently interpreted by authors since its publication in 1803 by the Danish mycologist Christian Friedrich Schumacher. Finally, we decided to propose a new name for this species to avoid taxonomic ambiguities and prevent nomenclatural problems.


Peziza livida is a discomycete name published by Schumacher (1803) and sanctioned by Fries (1822).
