Abstract: A Trichophaea species collected in Alpine zone in France, with characters close to those of T. woolhopeia, offers the opportunity to confirm — after a morphological and phylogenetic analysis — that the latter represents a complex of mycorrhizal species difficult to split morphologically. The morphological differences seen on this collection, in particular the size and shape of the ascospores, associated to its alpine ecology, and a probable relationship with Bistorta vivipara, are confirmed by molecular data. We propose it as a new species under the name T. dougoudii
