Abstract: The ongoing survey of coprophilous basidiomycetes and ascomycetes from Italy results at this stage in describing further Chaetomiaceae and Coniochaetaceae species isolated from herbivore dung. The high frequency of occurrence on this substrate is explained with their supposed cellulolytic ability and with the abundance of cellulose and lignin in specific types of dung. Chaetomium aureum, Corynascus sepedonium and Coniochaeta hansenii are extensively discussed. A worldwide key to Coniochaeta with poly-spored asci is provided. A key to coprophilous Chaetomiaceae and Coniochaetaceae from Italy is also provided and each species is pictured by one or more coloured photographs
