Basionym Plectania mediterranea M. Carbone, Agnello & Baglivo, Riv. Micol., 52 (3): 252 (2009).

Diagnosis Apothecia 0,5-4,2 (6) cm lata, 2,3-5,0 cm alta, alte concava, stipitata; margo crenulatus, e valde involuto usque ad leviter expansum in senectute. Hymenium leve, rubrum, rubrobadium, cuprum evocans, badionigrum in senectute. Superficies externa leviter lanigera, e rubro-lateritio usque ad badionigrum, verticaliter plicata et rugosa, leviter areolata. Caro valde gelatina, praecipue in stipite; inodora et insapora. Ascosporae in cumulo albae. Subhymenium badium, ex densa et intricata hypharum textura compositum. Excipulum medullare, clarum, ex intricata hypharum in materia gelatina immersarum textura compositum, parte externa cum cellulis breviter cylindratis et inflatis, seriatim dispositis. Excipulum ectale nigrum, e textura angulari cum cellulis nigrofuscis usque ad 16 µm crassis compositum. Pili tomenti duorum generum, etiamsi saepe intermedi observantur: 1) hyphis similes, hyalini, 3 µm crassi, cum parietibus tenuibus incrustatisque; 2) fuliginosi, cylindrati, septati, usque ad 8 µm crassi, cum parietibus fuliginosis et incrassatis usque ad 1 µm. Asci operculati, jodo haud tincti, cylindracei, longe inferne angustati atque flexuosi, aporynchi, 500-600 (655) × 13-16 (17) µm. Ascosporae ellipsoideae, uniseriatae, hyalinae, laeves, pluriguttulatae, (26) 31-34 (45) × (10,5) 11,5-13,5 (16) µm. Paraphyses filiformes, septatae, ramosae, interdum anastomosae, 2-3 µm latae, plerumque clare badiae; apice flexuoso, ramoso, saepe leviter nodoso vel leviter curvato, parvis luteolis guttulis praedito. Hymenii pili lineares, cylindrati, 3-4 µm lati, haud septati, unico septo ad basim praediti. Habitat: ascomata in ligno enascentia, praesertim Quercus ilicis et aliarum quercuum. Holotypus hic designatus in Herbario MCVE sub n. 24374 conservatur.
