Diagnosis Tuber floridanum differs from other members of the Maculatum clade by the smooth peridium surface, thickness of the peridium, presence of dermatocystidia, commonly 2–4 spores, rarely 5 spores per ascus, ascospores that are subglobose to broadly ellipsoidal (mean Q = 1.37), and unique gene sequences.
