Pulvinula miltina (Berk.) Rifai, Verh. K. ned. Akad. Wet., tweede sect., 57 (3): 204 (1968).
Basionym Peziza miltina Berk., in Hooker, Bot. Antarct. Voy. Erebus Terror 1839-1843, II, Fl. Nov.-Zeal.: 199 (1855).
Diagnosis Cupula applanata coccinea margine tantum subtus pallidiore libera, ascis linearibus, sporidiis globosis.
Hab. On the bare ground, among moss, on hills, Hawke's Bay, Colenso.
Cup depressed, expanded, ⅓ of a inch or more across, rather irregular, crimson, fixed to the soil by the whole under surface, with the exception of the margin, which is paler beneath. Asci linear; sporidia globose, 1/1750 of an inch in diameter; nucleus single. — Resembling in general habit and coulour P. rutilans, but that has elliptic sporidia, with two nuclei, unless indeed the little orange Peziza, which is so common on mud walls, be confounded with that species. The spores are larger than in the closely allied P. endocarpoides. P. phaeroplea, Berk. et Curt., has similar spores, but evidently differs in its articulate flocci.
Type ex herb. Berkeley, Colenso s.n. - K(M) - holotypus
Homotypic Barlaena miltina (Berk.) Sacc., Syll. Fung., 8: 113 (1889) ; Humaria miltina (Berk.) Cooke, Handbook of Australian fungi: 256 (1892) ; Barlaeina miltina (Berk.) Sacc. & Traverso, Syll. Fung., 19: 139 (1910).
