Basionym Peziza pithya Pers., Icon. desc. fung., 2: 43 (1800).
Diagnosis P. subgregaria dilute rubra, cupula plana, stipite villoso.
Rarissime reperitur vere, in ramulis dejectis pineis crescens; verum simul minori in copia.
Stipes lin. 1 altus, subincrassatus, villo laxo albido involutus. Cupula carnosa, pro ratione erassa ob discum, qui contra morem plurimarum hujus generis specierum non concavus, sed applanatus est; latitudine sesquilineari, colore amoene rubro.
Peziza coccinea Obs. myc. 2. p. 75. s. p. epidendra Bull. champ. t. 467. f. 3. crescendi parum et colore, nec non stipite, licet minus tomentoso, congruit, verum loco natali, magnitudine (quadruplo enim major est) imprimis vero cupula infundibuliformi quam maxime a nostra specie discrepat.
