Diagnosis Deeply cupulate, brownish orange apothecia up to 46 mm diam, often with a stipe-like rooting base, and smooth ascospores with mean dimensions 17.73 × 10.37 μm (Q = 1.717). Peziza meridionalis is distinguished from other members of the genus Peziza by its unique phylogenetic position.
