Diagnosis Paragalactinia nothofagacearum can be easily distinguished from other South American truffles by its ascomata that exude a yellow latex when cut or damaged. Other species of Paragalactinia truffles, such as P. infossa and P. eriniae, occur in North America and are associated with Quercus spp., whereas P. nothofagacearum is only known from Nothofagaceae forests in southern South America. Microscopically, P. nothofagacearum can also be distinguished by its subglobose ascospores with spiny ornamentation.
