Diagnosis Thermophilic ‘yellow morel’, morphologically close to Morchella esculenta. Pileus trapezoidal with blunt to truncate apex, primarily dark gray, early fading to dirty tan to or dark latex-yellow. Primary pits often small, 50-70 per ascome, round and shallow, polygonal and reminding Morchella esculenta whenold. Edges whitish, early red-orange-spotted. Pileus adnexed to stipe, without sinus. Stipe cylindrical to constricted at apex, turning orange where bruised or with age. Under broadleaved trees in open mesophilic locations: Fraxinus excelsior, F. angustifolia, Quercus ilex.
