Basionym Hydnocystis convoluta McAlpine, Agric. Gaz. New South Wales, 7: 86 (1896).

Diagnosis 32. Hydnocystis convoluta, M’Alp., n. sp. Convoluted Hydnoxystis.
Entirely white. An irregularly convoluted, hollow sac, externally roughened, internally smooth, about 2×2 inches, and narrowing towards the ground, wall about one line thick, and composed of an outer layer of subcartilaginous or brittle fleshy substance and an inner one of compact hymenium. Asci cylindrical, stalked, colourless, up to 256 µ long, containing 8 sporidia, and intermixed with slender, filamentous jointed paraphyses. Sporidia hyaline, spherical or oval, slightly verrucose, about 9 µ in dia., or 10-11 × 8.5 µ.

1) Peziza jactata is a nomen novum proposed by Burds. & Korf (in Burdsall, 1968) due to Peziza convoluta Peck.
