Abstract: A new species of Plicaria is described and illustrated from the province of Badajoz (south-western continental Spain). It is characterised by its non-pyrophilous ecology, spherical ascospores ornamented with spines up to 2 µm high, and the strong adherence of the apothecia to the substrate. The material was compared to related taxa using both morphological and phylogenetic data, supporting its recognition as a distinct species.
In December 2025, during an unusually rainy winter for Extremadura, a high number of apothecia belonging to a pezizoid taxon were collected in an unusually dry agricultural area.
