Abstract: New collections of Elaiopezia (Pezizaceae) species allow a better morphological and ecological circumscription of E. boudieri, as well as the discovery of an unknown taxon found in France and Germany, named E. olivaceobrunnea, well characterised by its smooth ascospores and asci with croziers. Both species are described and illustrated in detail. Molecular data obtained during this study also improve the phylogenetic resolution of taxonomy within this genus. The possible synonymy between Elaiopezia polaripapulata, a European species, and E. waltersii, so far known only in North America, is discussed.
The genus Elaiopezia was proposed by VAN VOOREN (2020) to accommodate a group of species belonging to the clade /polaripapulata in a multigene phylogeny (28S rDNA–RPB2–β-tubulin) of Pezizaceae, previously figured in clade VIIa of the LSU phylogeny by HANSEN et al. (2001) and clade “P. polaripapulata-P. sp4” of the multigene phylogeny by HANSEN et al. (2005). It is mostly characterised by small-sized apothecia, often with olivaceous hues, and, microscopically, by asci with or without croziers […]
