Abstract: Based on new molecular data, two new species are incorporated into the genus Paradiscina. A detailed description of P. melaleuca, the type of the genus, is provided, along with descriptions and illustrations of P. donadinii comb. nov., a Mediterranean taxon characterized by globose ascospores, and P. californica, a new species distinguished by its small size and warted ascospores. A phylogeny based on the ITS2 region is presented, and the systematics of the genus are briefly discussed. Finally, a key to Paradiscina is provided.
Dirks et al. (2025) published an updated phylogeny of the family Discinaceae, based on genomic data of numerous representative species. In this work, Gyromitra melaleuca (Bres.)
