The placement of this fungus in the genus Flammocladiella and its segregation from F. decora are based on study of its sexual-asexual morphs, primarily showing differences in ascomatal and conidial dimensions, and phylogenetic comparison of ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 and LSU sequences with those of F. decora and species belonging to families in the Hypocreales}}
