abstract = {The relative frequency of occurrence of ascomycetes that grow on herbivore dung is recorded and discussed, based on over 12000 records from more than 1300 herbivore dung samples that were collected and examined during incubation in damp chambers, between 1965 and 2019. Individual samples can produce from 0–21 ascomycete species, with an average of seven/sample. Some interesting associations are discussed — parasitic species, restricted substrate preferences, and the use of dung fungus spores as indicators in palaeoecological studies}}
