Basionym Helvella gigas Krombh., Naturgetr. Abbild. Beschr. Schwämme, 3: 28 + pl. 20, fig. 1-5 (1834).

Diagnosis Helv. pileo magno, lobato, undulato, plicato vel crispo, pallido, albido vel ochraceo: lobis stipiti subadnatis adpressis subundulatis; stipite crasso, celluloso, ceraceo, albido, extus lacunoso, sub glabro; ascis majusculis; sporis magnis, ovalibus; mycelio ceraceo-tomentoso, crasso, effuso.
